Jungshin: We have a long way to go.
DJ: You are so humble. As the highly anticipated artists who made a smash hit in Korea, recently, you made long-waited major debut in Japan after Korea. You are a highly anticipated artist in Japan as well, aren’t you?
Jonghyun & Minhyuk: Thank you.
Jonghyun: I will work harder.
DJ: You speak Japanese very well?
CNBLUE: Not so much.
DJ: You don’t have to be that humble.
Yonghwa: We are studying very hard nowadays.
DJ: Your pronunciation is perfect.
Jonghyun: No. Not at all.
Jungshin: Not good enough, yet.
Yonghwa: You are right. Are we perfect?
DJ: Yes. You are perfect. I’m going to ask you some questions in Japanese. Yonghwa shi, pls explain about your major debut single in Japan.
Yonghwa: In My Head has a taste of rock. The lyrics of the song tells about dream and hope. Please listen to CNBLUE’s In My Head.

♫ [In My Head] ♫

DJ: We have listened to ‘In My Head’. This is Jena’s J-wave Saturday Sonic. And now it is World Sonic. This week, we are with Korea’s anticipated and popular band CNBLUE.
DJ: You stayed in Japan for half year of 2009. At that time I heard you performed live performances a lot. How was it? When you think about it now? Do you have any memorable place?
Jungshin: Shinjuku Station is the most memorable place.
Yonghwa: We performed our first street live in Shinjuku Station.
DJ: How was it at that time? How many audiences were there?
Jonghyun: Nobody.
Yonghwa: None at all.
DJ: At that time, were you living together?
CNBLUE: Yes.
DJ: How was it? Living together? When you think back?
Jonghyun: It was very hard.
Jungshin: Because we didn’t have any money.
Yonghwa Since then, we have been living together until now.
DJ: Are you living together till now? In Korea?
CNBLUE: Yes.
DJ: Really? Don’t you fight each other?
Yonghwa: It is fun.
Minhyuk: No (we don’t fight).
Jonghyun: No, not at all.
Yonghwa: Every day is fun.
DJ: You are very close to each other. You speak Japanese very well. Really! How did you study?
Yonghwa: Drama. Japanese drama.
Jungshin: Do you know the drama ‘Pride‘?
DJ: Pride? Kimura Takuya?
Jungshin: Yes. When I watched it for the first time, it was like a cultural shock. After that, I really like Kimura Takuya till now.
DJ: Do you respect him?
Jungshin: Yes. I like Takeuchi Yuko as well.
DJ: She is beautiful. “Love Story” is very good.
Jungshin: Yes.
DJ: Among the members, what is popular these days?
Jonghyun: It’s drama.
DJ: You really watch drama a lot.
Jonghyun: It is helpful for me to compose songs and to study Japanese. There are many good things in it.
DJ: Recent dramas?
Jonghyun: I watch both recent and old dramas.
DJ: Since you live together, do you watch it together?
Yonghwa: Individually.
Minhyuk: As we watch individually, there are a variety of dramas that we saw and we could learn a lot from them.
DJ: Do you have any secret that only members know about it?
Yonghwa: Secret.
DJ: Please let me know.
Yonghwa: Jungshin is always the same. He is afraid of riding on the plane.
DJ: Who?
Jonghyun: Jungshin. And he sleeps with his eyes open.
DJ: Sleeps with eyes open? Are you scared?
Jonghyun: Yes, I am scared.
DJ: It ‘s funny.
Jungshin: Thank you.
DJ: How about Minhyuk? Please reveal any secret that you know.
Minhyuk: I can’t watch scary movies.
DJ: Horror movie?
Jungshin: Like ‘Saw‘
Minhyuk: I hate it.
DJ: I will give you the DVD of an American horror movie that I starred in. It’s a quite scary movie like ‘Saw’. How about Jonghyun? Don’t you have anything about him?
Minhyuk: Jonghyun Hyung has beard, plenty of beard.
DJ: He has a lot?
Minhyuk: Yes. At night, his beard grow so much.
DJ: He doesn’t look like (he has them).
Jonghyun: I shaved this morning.
DJ: You look clean now.
Jonghyun: I am fine now.
DJ: You are very manly. Your male hormone is strong. Next, please tell me Yonghwa’s secret.
Yonghwa: I don’t have any.
Jungshin: Yonghwa Hyung sleeps on his stomach.
Jonghyun: Right. He is not normal.
DJ: Like a baby? Cute.
DJ: There are 3 new songs in your major debut single. I will play one more song. Jonghyunm shi, please introduce it.
CNBLUE: This is CNBLUE’s Rain of Blessing, please have a listen.

♫ [Rain of Blessing] ♫

DJ: That was CNBLUE’s Rain of Blessing. This week we are with Korea’s anticipated and popular band CNBLUE. You have performed street live in Shinjuku. Recently you held free live performance in Shinjuku.
Yonghwa: At that time, I saw audience from stage and thought about how many they came. I heard that they were about 7,000 people.
DJ: 7,000 people? Awesome!
Yonghwa: Yes. I was really surprised.
DJ: When you performed there long ago, there was no audience. 2 years ago? 3 years ago? The time goes by and it became 7,000 people.
Jonghyun: It was the same place.
DJ: It’s such an amazing thing. Were you touched?
Yonghwa: Yes.
Jonghyun: I was surprised.
Yonghwa: So, next year it will be in Tokyo Dome.
DJ: 50,000 people? It will be increased a lot.
Yonghwa: I want to do that. Everyone please help us.
DJ: I think it will be possible? I think you can do it with this popularity, and with this force.
Yonghwa: Let’s keep it up.
Jonghyun: Let’s work hard.
DJ: Today, as a K-pop special. We have invited CNBLUE to our studio. Thank you so much.
CNBLUE: Thank you.
DJ: Don’t you think that the four members are so close to each other? Before the broadcast, while they were waiting, I saw them talking to each other happily and I thought they were cute. Before their (dream) Tokyo Dome’s concert, CNBLUE will hold a Japan tour in December. Tokyo concert will be on December 16, Friday, at Yoyogi National Stadium, the 1st hall. I want to go and see it. That’s all for this week with Korean popular band CNBLUE who released Japan major debut single “ In My Head”.

CNBLUE Request Song

In My Head Episode

[Video|Trans] 111029 Nihon TV Zoom In Saturday

*this is the translated summary of the video

This show discuss about Korean band movement.
CNBLUE was introduced as one of it.

Last week, there is a Korean rock band that made their major debut in Japan. On their debut day event, about 7000 people gathered, regardless that it was a secret (surprised) live concert.
Recently many Korean rock band come to Japan. They have similarity, which is they had experience of studying music in Japan.

JongHyun: At the first time when we performed in Japan, there’s no audience.
JungShin: It was zero.
JongHyun: Yes, zero people (laugh).

Why did they come and study in Japan?

Mr.Furuya (Korean culture journalist): In Korea, rock is regarded as an underground music even until now.

Once Korean Government Authority restrained rock music, because they consider rock music as antisocial. In addition, since 1990s dance music got higher popularity especially focusing on young girls.

Mr.Furuya: There are many livehouse all over Japan, but in Korea, livehouse is in only limited area. So they come to Japan for studying rock music. I think, they (who came to Japan to study) have strong will and that they want to be a real rock band.

Q: What is your feeling after having Yokohama Arena concert with 15,000 audience?
Jonghyun: When I performed on the street, I could learn the importance of having even one person as your audience. When I heard the number of audience would be 15,000, I thought I might get scared. (laugh) But actually I didn’t at all. As I saw many people listening to our music, I could get energy from them.
Minhyuk: Towards the ending, everyone did ‘audience wave’. They all sang along. Those became the power to us. That was unforgettable.
Yonghwa: Before we entered the hall, audience were already standing, they were ready to listen. I was so touched by it. I was so excited that I don’t remember how we started.
Jungshin: While performing, I was reminded to all of our past concerts. It was the final indie concert, it was very meaningful for me.

Q: CNBLUE have twin guitar & vocal, both Yonghwa and Jonghyun are in charge of composing and lyrics writing. Recently Minhyuk and Jungshin started study of composing and lyric writing.
Minhyuk: I’m listening to various music, and thinking about the image of music that I want to make. But still I am just thinking. (laugh)
Jonghyun: They are practicing guitar and piano. They are admirable. In my point of view, Minhyuk has ability of writing lyric. He reads lots of book, he is the smartest among us. (laugh)
Yonghwa: He writes the most emotional lyric.
Jungshin: Not long ago, we had a package to our dorm, it was books Minhyuk ordered.
Minhyuk: Ah… Thank you.(ashamed) I bought books, but I am too busy to read many books. (laugh)
Jonghyun: I am lack of experience, I get emotions watching many drama or movies, to compose.
Yonghwa hyung, composing is your hobby, right?
Yonghwa: I can’t do it if I think it’s a work. It’s my daily life. With this thinking, (composing as a natural manner), I can make a good song. When I composed my first song, I was in the second year of middle school. As I listen to it again now, it’s the worst.
Minhyuk: But you thought it was the best at that time, didn’t you?
Yonghwa: I did. Title was ‘Easy Love’. It’s meaningless. I don’t know what it meant.

Q: Your major debut single ‘In My Head’ is composed by Yonghwa.
Yonghwa: I made it when we were preparing debut in Korea, January 2010. I kept it carefully. I didn’t know I could release it this fast, as Japan major debut single even. I feel so deeply moved.
Jungshin: The lyric is about a hope of those in the 20s like us, very positive.
Yonghwa: I always make the title first, then content later. This song too, I started from the title “In My Head”.

Q: Hopeful lyric, it reflects yourself.
Jonghyun: Definitely, practice is everything to us. We have a long way to go. Actually, I want to play the guitar even while sleeping. We members realize that if we don’t practice hard, we can’t progress.
Jungshin: When we attend the music festival, I see other artists perform on the stage. That’s a real good lesson to us. Another thing is a speaking?
Minhyuk: Japanese language. We are studying hard, and I think I became better, but if we speak Japanese better, our concert would have been better.
Yonghwa: If we could make better conversation, we could have made a hit 3,4 times bigger than now. (laugh) I wish I could speak in Japanese (and tell people) what I want to express. And we are practicing really hard, but definitely practice is not enough. I want more concerts. That’s the best lesson!

Translator’s Note:
I don’t think Jonghyun is lack of experience… :)
It seems Yonghwa experienced many things at 2nd year of middle school, first stage, first composing, first kiss :)

B-PASS Magazine
December 2011 Issue
B-PASS Editor’s postscript
The BGM during shooting was of course “In My Head”
 ~The encounter on that day~
The shooting was finished and before the interview, YongHwa picked up the latest issue of B-PASS (NOV issue) from the table. The cover and top page feature was the GazettE, he looked at them and said something. “What did you say?” I asked him and he said “We met them at a studio before!”
The interview was held a studio in Tokyo this time. They seemed to have interviews for their major debut since the morning for all day.
It was the day after their last indie live concert at Yokohama Arena, I thought and worried that the members must be exhausted. But I didn’t have to worry about it. They came into the studio with livelily saying “Otukaresamade~su. (수고하셨어요 -Thanks for your hard work.)” while the crew was preparing. We got them changed at once and we started shooting the solo photos from the one was ready.
We created the space of greyish with the lightning adjustment and the theme was Cool & Stylish, we did it from the image of “In My Head” in those photos this time. How were they?  We took different patterns of group photos distantly and each member’s solo photos closely to stand out those tall members’ standing position.
But there are not many bands the members are all tall. Also they have long legs!!
The ones we took distantly were really nice that the silhouette of their trim figures extended from the white wall in the studio. By the way, the members who were waiting for their solo shoot after getting ready, watched the video of their Yokohama Arena live concert on PC. Then after finishing photo shooting, we carried on to the interview.
At first, I interviewed about their impressions of the live concert at Yokohama Arena, they found it was interesting to perform on the round stage. Often it really sparked up the conversations. (laugh)

CNBLUE ~In My Head~
CNBLUE is a twin guitar & vocal band from Korea. Through the live performances at clubs and on the streets they gained a lot of experience. At last they had their major debut with “In My Head”! We’ll talk about their works and their last indie live concert at Yokohama Arena.

We look forward for more people to know our music.

-Congratulations to your major debut at last! You’ve done indie activities since 2 years ago, did you picture yourselves having the “major debut” back then?
YongHwa: “We had many of street live performances in 2009. When we performed in Yoyogi Park where Yoyogi Taiikukan was next to it, we always looked at it thinking “We want to have live concert at the venue like that” At time we had a vague dream.”
JongHyun: “When we were performing street live in Yoyogi Park and I saw people going to Yoyogi Taiikukan are passing by, I was thinking ‘There’s a live concert of someone today. They have so many fans…’ I thought that ‘Will we able to stand on the stage there someday?’ ‘When will it be?”
MinHyuk: “At that time, it was not a matter of whether we have our major debut quick. But while we were looking at many live performances around, we thought ‘We want to perform at a venue like this. Will we be able to do that?’ I was only thinking about the live concert.”
JungShin: “I was the same. I just performed earnestly as I wanted as many people as possible to see our live performances, rather than concrete thought about being a major or an indie band in those days.”

-CNBLUE often says that “We learn a lot from Japanese music scene.” Do you have any specific points you can learn?
YongHwa: “I think Japanese music scene has a lot of freedom and there are many unique bands that are not affected by trends. There is so much to learn just seeing such a wide variety of bands.”
JongHyun: “In my case, I learned the basic of the band scene in Japan. When I first started as an indie band, I learned how to practice instruments by looking at the bands around us.”
-What did you learn from those live performances?
JungShin: “The more we go through the live performances, we gradually became aware of performing in tune with the audiences. Also when we prepare for the tour, we learn a lot of instrumental technique.”
JongHyun: “Also keeping myself in good shape when I’m on the tour. I didn’t realise this until I started going on the tour. The most important thing is the pacing. If I try too hard, I can’t perform next day.”

-By the way, did you get any advice from FTISLAND who belong the same agency and major debuted before you?
MinHyuk: “We talk a lot with JaeJin (Bass), as JungShin and I are the same age.”
JungShin: “They are a senior band to us, but we are almost the same age and good friends. JaeJin tells me about their major activities in Japan. He gives me advice to do my best at live concerts and also the promotion as major scene let us many people to know the band colour.”
-Well, let’s talk about your debut single. Firstly, how did you make those three numbers?
YongHwa: “I had written ‘In My Head’ long time ago. And the other two numbers were to fit for the concept of the single.”

When did you write “In My Head”?
JongHyun: “I think it was an early last year?”
YongHwa: “I think it was when we were campaigning “I’m A Loner” in Korea. Yes, it was in January!” -Did you write right after the debut in Korea and in the middle of busy days?
YongHwa: “I always tend to store up songs.”
JongHyun: “The rough idea was written while we were campaigning “I’m A Loner”, but we got busier we just left it without completing it. Then I suggested to YongHwa ‘This song is really good, so why don’t you re-arrange it.’ With that, it formally became our debut number as a completed version.”
MinHyuk: “I remember when I listened to this song for the first time, I thought about how to beat out the rhythm on a drum and I played my drum to the tune of this song.”
JungShin: “I remember saying ‘It’s a good song.’ as soon as I listened to it. I wanted to complete it and make it our main sound, I’m so glad that it became our major debut song.”

-It must be a fate, the song you made when you major debuted in Korea becoming the Japan major debut song.
YongHwa: “If I think about it, yes it must be so. There were songs to choose, but ‘In My Head’ was chosen as we thought as it’s our major debut song, it should be something has a strong impact, full of energy and strong rock image.”
JongHyun: “This song was re-arranged three times before we recorded.”
YongHwa: “At first, it had a base of tune what we created, and then arranged it to a hard tune, also we arranged it to a soft tune, tried differently. Finally we chose the one we thought was the coolest parts and recorded.”
-Well, talking about the lyric of “In My Head” now. I think there’re rhythmical parts, wasn’t it difficult?
YongHwa: “The part of ‘Setunakumo Amai Negai~’, right? It’s filled with words, so it was difficult to break the rhythm.”
JongHyun: “Conversely, I thought Japanese language is interesting.”
YongHwa: “We had a hard time when I recorded it, my mouth got used to it now. ‘Kiramekini Furetai~, Setunakumo Amai Negai~’, like this (smile)”
JungShin: “’Burerukotonai Kibouyo~♪’ (sang a tune, not to be outdone by YongHwa) I can’t do it, my mouth can’t keep up (laugh).”
-How about the second song that YongHwa wrote and composed. “Mr. KIA (Know It All)” is an interesting title.
YongHwa: “English is often shortened overseas, so I tried that.”
-“Rain of Blessing” that JongHyun composed, is a soft tune.
JongHyun: “I couldn’t find any tunes that I had already composed and I composed it from scratch. I watched many dramas and films, I put the emotions in myself, and then I started composing.”
-What dramas or films did you watch?
JongHyun: “I watched ‘Bara No Nai Hanaya (Flower Shop Without Roses)’, ‘Sekai no Chushinde Ai wo Sakebu (Crying out Love, In the Centre of the World) ’. I chose a little bit wistful ones and watch. I always watch Japanese dramas and films when I compose. I think the music or albums are one of those stories.”
-Well, what story is in your debut single “In My Head”?
YongHwa: “’In My Head’ is to have a goal and do forward into the future. ‘Mr.KIA (Know It All)’ is to tell not to forget the enthusiasm people had at the beginning when they lost their goals. “Rain of Blessing” is to end with the impression that is enfolding all of the feelings. It was made in such flow.”
JongHyun: “The most important thing is to show that CNBLUE has a different styles of music like those three numbers.”
-Let’s talk about the live concert at Yokohama Arena which you successfully ended yesterday. You checked the video earlier, didn’t you?
YongHwa: “It was great.”
JungShin: “I couldn’t believe that we performed in front of that many people. I was like ‘Is it really us?’”
JongHyun: “I worried about things didn’t go satisfactorily just after we finished the live concert. But when I watched the video objectively…..The atmosphere was very good. It made me think that I could do well.”
MinHyuk: “Especially this time, we had very good harmony with the audiences.”
-As it was your last indie live concerts to make a new start, I suppose there were changes or growth of each member, if you look back now. Please tell us what was changed of the member next to you!
YongHwa: “As for JongHyun, his guitar technique has improved and also his stage performance got a lot better. Ah, his Japanese improved quite well!”
JongHyun: “It’s because I watch so many Japanese dramas….. (sheepish grin) As for JungShin, he looks so cool just standing by his nature. There are bassists that the size of bass is conspicuous sometime, but the bass fit in JungShin’s body. That means he gained the performance skill.”
JungShin: “MinHyuk practiced intently even he was busy acting in a Korean drama. I was amazed with his ability to learn and achieve what he has to even in a short time.”
MinHyuk: “I think YongHwa is a great person that leads us and the audiences in any circumstances as he is on the stage. Seeing other three from my drum seat, it makes me happy as I can see them really enjoy their time.”
-Why did YongHwa suddenly started the audience wave at the last half.
YongHwa: “Hehehe…. (reminiscent smile) I suddenly wanted to do. So I put my guitar down and went to stir up the audiences.”
JongHyun: “I thought we would play the next song, but YongHwa put his guitar down. So I instantly thought ‘What happened!?’ He started doing wave with the audiences in the venue without notice, I was impressed.”
MinHyuk: “The audiences became one!”

You’ll start ZEPP Tour at the end of this year, and ZEPP Tour is the second time for you. What does ZEPP mean to you?
YongHwa: “ZEPP is the venue we can learn a lot. Standing on as many stages as we can is the more important thing than anything else. We think ZEPP Tour is pretty much essential.”
JongHyun: “We’ve come to perform at large venues recently, we want to perform at a venue like ZEPP where our staffs are around us and we can communicate up close. I like that closeness and size.” -Then you’ll have the tour final live concert at Yoyogi Taiikukan.
YongHwa: “I’m so happy with the live concert at Yokohama Arena yesterday. I’m so full with excitement, because I can perform at Yoyogi Taiikukan next time, the place where I always saw during our street lives. I have a thought we have to improve our skills more and show it on the stage.”
JongHyun: “I still can’t believe that I can stand on the stage at Yoyogi where I dreamed of. It can’t be true.”
YongHwa: “If my dreams come true, I want to perform at Tokyo Dome next year! Also I want to perform at Budokan as a band. The last one will be at Tokyo Tower.” (all of members laughed)
JongHyun: “Where the audience will be then?”
YongHwa: “I want them to watch us on LED screen on the ground. Ah, there’s Sky Tree as well.”
-How about Namsan Tower in Seoul?
YongHwa: “We can’t get many people as it’s on the top of mountain.” (laugh)
JongHyun: “Well, (the largest building in Seoul) how about 63 building? We perform on the rooftop of the building and we have the whole building as a relay screen!”
YongHwa: “We can’t get into the rooftop of the 63 building.” (weirdly realistic)
MinHyuk: “Where is the higher one?”
YongHwa: “In the end it’ll be the Statue of Liberty in New York. (all burst of laughter) The place she holds the fire.”
-There is the Statue of Liberty in Tokyo Odaiba….
YongHwa: “Not that one! (grumpy laugh) The one in New York!”
JungShin: “We have to have our dreams high.”
YongHwa: “Yes, indeed. So Tokyo Dome, Tokyo Tower, and then the Statue of Liberty from next year on. OK, staff!!”

Questions and Answers from “In My Head”

Q1. What is in your head the most just now?
YongHwa: “Practice, practice, practice, practice….”
JongHyun: “CNBLUE, practice, live performance, guitar, music, memorise the lyrics….. I’m too busy to think anything else.”
JungShin: “CNB…” (just as he started speaking, YongHwa said) ‘JungShin doesn’t think about anything’ (laugh) “Yes, I do! About the band!”
MinHyuk: “I want to improve my skill, I want to do my best, both performance and talk.”
Q2. What dream did you see recently?
YongHwa: “I keep dreaming something scary. I often dream being chased and running away. Maybe it’s because I’m so busy recently.”
JongHyun: “I try to memorise the lyrics even in my dream.” (laugh)
JungShin: “I often dream about my school life.”
MinHyuk: “Nightmare. I didn’t dream that often before, but recently I dream that I fail in something or things don’t go well.”
Q3. What Japanese word are you interested in?
YongHwa: “‘Ima Hima? (Are you free now?)’ It’s something comes my mind. I want to make full use of it.”
Editor: “It’s a cliché for picking up girls.”
YongHwa: “Oh, in that case, it’s not a good one.”
Editor: “Oh, well, we use it in our daily life though.”
YongHwa: “Are you free now?” (picking up JongHyun who sat next to him).
JongHyun: “‘Samazama na (various)’ I learned that it’s the same as ‘Iroiro na’ for our live concert yesterday.”
JungShin: “(after heard what YongHwa said) ‘Ocha Shinai? (Do you want go for a cup of tea?)’ ” (picking up YongHwa)
MinHyuk: “‘Guruguru (swirl)’ The stage at Yokohama Arena was swirling.”

Live Concert Report CNBLUE 2nd Album Release Live ~392~ @ Yokohama Arena, 25th October 2011

CNBLUE stood on the stage at Yokohama Arena for their last indie live concert. When each member appeared through the runways that were extended from four quarters leading to the stage in centre, there was a cheer surged from the seats. For this large stage, they showed composure on their faces. The audiences gradually heated up with their nonstop performance. “We will devote all to you on this live concert today! YongHwa gave his faith to the audiences and JongHyun said “I lay my life on this stage!” Starting with “I’m A Loner” that was a hit number in Korea followed by their hit numbers in Korea, YongHwa stir up the audiences with his rap like bullet attack. In the ballad number, the transparent voice of JongHyun enfolded the audience. And they played “Man in front of the Mirror” from their latest album “392” for the first time. The round stage like a disc often turned around, the members running around. It looked like an amusement park’s main attraction. They made the audiences surprised with playing one chorus of the major debut number “In My Head” at the encore. Then they ended with “a.ri.ga.tou.” that they sang heartily with the audiences. It was just like “the eve of the major debut” when I saw the excitement that the whole audiences became one on that day.

CNBLUE is a highly regarded orthodox band for their multiple music numbers and the competent live performances by twin guitars & vocals. They name various musicians who affected them in their music lives, from Eric Clapton and John Mayer to Backstreet Boys, GreeeeN and flumpool. This October, they made the long-awaited Japan major debut.

――As it contains three songs including the title track that YongHwa composed, please tell us what each song is all about.
JongHyun: “‘In My Head’ has a meaning to introduce us again.”
JungShin: “The lyrics have our feelings that we want to tell.”
YongHwa: “Since we brought a passion into each track, I want the listeners to pay attention to both of the melody and the lyrics.”
JongHyun: “The second song ‘Mr.KIA’ was composed and written by YongHwa. We put in it our rebirth and mind never to forget to be humble.”
MinHyuk: “The third song ‘Rain of Blessing’ is a ballad tune composed by JongHyun.”
JongHyun: “It’s like an ending of a film, a number that is to end with receiving rain of blessing. Perhaps you’ll feel a story nature if you listen to all of the three songs in order.”

――At Yokohama Arena, you performed live overwhelmingly.
YongHwa: “At our live concert held in Korea just before the Yokohama concert (BLUESTORM in Seoul), we played with live strings. But, since it was the last indie concert, we wanted to stand on the stage by ourselves.”
JongHyun: “Yes, that was the concept. Especially, I was deeply moved at the last song ‘a.ri.ga.tou’ because all of us sang it.”
YongHwa: “I was really pleased that JungShin and MinHyuk sang it.”
JongHyun: “MinHyuk sang the whole song alone at the live concert in Korea.” (Star – Heartstrings OST)
MinHyuk: “I always take back chorus to help YongHwa and JongHyun, but trying to sing properly, I couldn’t take vocal well… (Embarrassed)
JungShin: “It’s hard to sing while playing drums.”
MinHyuk: “Yes, it was fun though my vocal wasn’t perfect.”
JongHyun: “JungShin, you can sing more and more from now on, too.”
JungShin: “I have no desire for vocal (laugh), so I concentrate on playing the bass.”

――I suppose you are very busy, when do you write songs?
JongHyun: “In my case, I don’t consider it as work. I do song-writing as a part of my life, like a hobby. Sometimes films and dramas inspire me to write. And as for playing my guitar, songs come in mind spontaneously. Unless I play my guitar every day, I can hardly grow.”
YongHwa: “I write songs after work every day, too. I compose melody and arrange it at the same time on my computer.”
JongHyun: “Maybe that’s why YongHwa’s songs are experimental and have fresh feelings. But most of my songs are basic. Also, I think about performing it at live concert first, while YongHwa makes a study on the song and has priority over fun of arrangement. This difference between us may be the character of our music.”

――How is your future direction as a band? Is there any change after major debut?
JungShin: “There’s no change that we value our fans and enjoy ourselves at the live performances.”
JongHyun: “Yes, I felt that we were able to make this arena live concert not only by ourselves but also with the audience, we made it together. I’d like to do flexibly and have fun with everyone without deciding our style or colour.”
YongHwa: “Now, I’m thinking of a song that will surprise everyone, but I wonder if it is acceptable…”
MinHyuk: “It is nice that our fans would play and enjoy our music together, but I want to value fans’ voice, too…”
YongHwa: “But I think our fans understand my thoughts and songs, so we won’t need to worry at all (laugh).

Which do you prefer?
Q1: Shine or Rain
Q2: The Rolling Stones or the Beatles
Q3: If you see a movie on your date, love comedy or action movie?

LEE JONG HYUN
A1: Shine. I don’t really like strong sunshine, but it’s better than raining. But I often write songs about rain (laugh).
A2: Difficult! The Beatles as the music, and the Stones in the meaning that I want to continue long-term like them.
A3: Love comedy. But it’s up to her.

JUNG YONG HWA
A1: Rain. I like the sound of rain, too. When it’s raining, I become sentimental and feel like writing songs.
A2: The Stones. The album that Mick Jagger released recently is great!
A3: To be honest, I want to ask her to see a horror film, but if I had to choose one, it’s love comedy. But I won’t see the one that the hero is good-looking (laugh).

LEE JUNG SHIN
A1: Shine. Because when the weather’s fine, I feel good.
A2: The Beatles. I have loved their songs since I was a child. But I prefer the Stones as a band style. It’s the same as JongHyun (laugh).
A3: Love comedy. We’re on date, aren’t we? As for action film, I go with male friends.

KANG MIN HYUK
A1: Rain. I like watching something falling from the sky, so I like snow as well. I also like being under trees on a fine day.
A2: Although I like both, I choose the Beatles. Their image is nice.
A3: Love comedy, because I think it’s better to see a comedy and laugh on a date.

[News] 111020 CNBLUE Guerilla Concert at Shinjuku was interrupted by Japanese police

The boys of CNBLUE who are slowly beginning to dominate in Japan were recently met with an unexpected and embarrassing situation. Japanese news source Sankei Sports reported on the boys’ recent performance that was suddenly halted by the local police.

CNBLUE held a secret live performance (guerilla concert) at Shinjuku Station Square in Tokyo on the 19th, and although the performance was unannounced with no promotions, a busy crowd of 7,000 still showed up to the concert. The number of fans exceeded CNBLUE’s own expectations, and it was the first time a new artist in Japan gathered a crowd that large for such an event.

However, they faced some issues not even five minutes into the show. Shortly after the boys finished performing their Japanese debut song ‘”In My Head“, the Shinjuku police arrived on the scene. The police determined that it was considered a safety hazard for so many people to be gathered in one small place without prior notice, and they were instructed to halt the show at once.

The boys who were planning to sing three songs total could only finish one before they were interrupted, and leader Jung Yong Hwa remarked, “The safety of our fans is most important. We will see you guys at Saturday’s show“, and waved to the audience. The rather organized and orderly show ironically became disordered and out of hand once the police arrived, as the fans began screaming to see more of CNBLUE.
CNBLUE released their major debut song “In My Head” on the 19th. They performed it for the first time at Yokohama Arena on the 25th of last month and were highly praised for their musical talents.
